Who Is Teaching Kwame Kilpatrick?

                            By: Bobbie Jones

When it comes to life lessons do we really learn what we should?  Someone should really ask that question to former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.

Let’s face it, on this journey we call life we all have some lessons to learn and some lessons are quite simple and some are very hard.  I remember a lesson my Mom laid out before me when I was a little girl.  She told me to treat others the way I wanted to be treated or, as some may say – To do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Now, with all that has happened with the former mayor it made me ask out loud, “Did anyone teach Kilpatrick this lesson?”  I can bet you there are two former police officers in the city of Detroit that can tell us – No way can this lesson be in the heart of the former mayor.  I believe you know their names, Mr. Gary Brown and Mr. Harold Nelthrope.

You see, being fired is something that hurts but being fired unfairly and wrongfully hurts very deeply – Kilpatrick should know that now since Compuware has bid him an un-fond farewell.  However, if Kilpatrick would have just let those two officers do their jobs we would not be at this juncture right now and a life lesson would have not been lost or wasted.

There is another lesson Kilpatrick has so obviously missed and that is the one about lying and we all know this one.  If I would have had to listen to him say one more time that he didn’t know if his wife had a job or how much he didn’t know she earned at the job he didn’t know she had – I was “gonna” have to check myself in for mental treatment.

Even after Kilpatrick had been put in jail and was on probation for lying under oath he still continued to do so.  Thank God that on sentencing day May 25, 2010 Judge Groner saw through all the lies and concluded that once again a life lesson had escaped the former mayor’s grasp.

Now, as a former mayor – forced out, and a former Compuware employee – fired.  The universe and “Miss Karma” will be forced to teach Kilpatrick a lesson that he couldn’t comprehend on his own.  What goes around comes around.

And for all the young people out there that felt Kilpatrick was the ultimate “Player” and “Pimp” or thought that he was “The Man” and had it going on all because it seemed he was cheating the system and getting away with it.

I say to you – Please, get your lives in order and learn the lessons that Kwame failed to learn.  Learn from his mistakes or you may find yourself on the same destructive path to nothingness.

         God Bless & Good luck
